Michael Pinsky takes the combined roles of urban planner, activist, researcher, resident and artist. Using the mediums of video, performance, mapping and programming, Pinsky responds site-specifically to physical and sociological space. Context is crucial, providing both the content and the platform for his work.
Current projects include; In Transit (developed at the V2 Lab, Rotterdam), shown at the; Institute for Contemporary Art, London, Armory Center of the Arts, Los Angeles; Cornerhouse and Rotterdam International Architectural Biennial. Public commissions for; Artpoint, Modern Art Oxford, Nexus, COAST, Commission’s East, Sustrans and Legible City Bristol. Recent projects include; Transparent Room, an ACE funded tour including Leeds City Art Gallery, Watershed and the Contemporary Art Forum, Canada. Symposium, part of Rivercommissions for HTBA. Feedback, premiered in Weimar, developed at ZKM, Karlsruhe and Ecole d'Art d'Aix-En Provence.
Dr Michael Pinsky graduated from the Royal College of Art and is Senior Lecturer at East London University. He has given public talks at the; BALTIC, RCA, Best of Heritage, Dubrovnik and Wiretap, Rotterdam. He received an Art for Architecture award from the RSA and was shortlisted for the prestigious Gulbenkian Museums Award.
